Parent and Child Fostering – thoughts from a Bristol Foster Carer
Parent and child fostering can be one of the most challenging but rewarding activities carried out by any foster carer. We asked some of our carers for feedback about their fostering and below are the thoughts of Audrey in Bristol.
“I have been a foster carer for 18 years, 10 of those for parents and their children. I love what I do.
The mums and sometimes dads who come to me are from all walks of life. They have not always experienced good parenting or maybe life has taken them along the wrong path.
They need support and guidance to help them be the best parents that they can be. The babies need someone to watch over and protect them, and to put them first.
Our family has grown over the years, I feel privileged to see some of those children grow up, to be in touch with many of the parents who lived with us, both those who remained with their children, and those who unfortunately did not.
Happy times, sad times, you will have them all, if you choose to foster parent and child.”

Parent and child fostering is a specialist type of fostering where a mum or dad will come to you with the child or baby, as they need help in looking after their child. Placements tend to be shorter, which sometimes give carers little breaks between placements.
It takes something special to be able to do it but those who can foster a parent and child, will tell you how rewarding it is. If you feel you have what it takes, please get in touch with us, we are always happy to chat.
