On 26th, 27th and 28th June, the Wessex Team and the South West Team delivered a joint Skills to Foster training course to prospective foster carers who are currently undergoing their assessments to be approved foster carers. The Skills to Foster training is an essential part of applicants journey and preparation to become foster carers. Topics covered include:
- What do foster carers do?
- Identity and life chances
- Working with others
- Understanding and caring for children
- Safer Caring
On the final day, three foster carers from the Wessex area attended the training to speak about their experiences of fostering. This was a great opportunity for participants to ask any questions they had about the realities of fostering, along with also enjoying bacon and sausage sandwiches and a cup of tea! Feedback from everyone on the course was really positive and participants said they felt reassured about their decision to foster and were excited to move onto their next part of their journey into fostering.
Many thanks to all who attended and to Cullompton Community Centre for having us.
