You will be assigned a Supervising Social Worker (SSW) to work alongside you and offer regular support. Your SSW will have a maximum of 11 other carers, usually fewer. You can also contact a SSW at any time of the day or night for help with an urgent problem or query, via our on call service.
Each region organises training courses for their carers and you’ll also receive information sheets, workbooks and the like on topics of interest to you. Your SSW will help you complete the workbook to achieve the Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Care introduced in 2008 for all foster carers.
In each region there are carer support groups where you can meet and link up with other carers to discuss common issues.
You can access a wealth of material - books, magazines, internet-sourced information etc - on a range of topics through our regional offices and on our website.
We send regular newsletters to all our carers to keep them informed of any developments within The Fostering Foundation offices, the carer group, any changes in practice affecting foster carers locally and nationally and any other items of interest.
